Discover why Oregon Flowers, a Dutch-inspired family business, relies on Hortica's 135+ years of insurance expertise to help protect their American dream.
Rooted in family values and Dutch traditions, Oregon Flowers has bloomed into a thriving cut flower business in the heart of Willamette Valley. Martin Meskers and his wife, Helene, started Oregon Flowers in 1985—six years after emigrating from Holland.
In 1979, the Meskers moved from the Netherlands to Oregon to work for Oregon Bulb Farm, a top lily breeding company. After three years, they pursued their American Dream by establishing Oregon Flowers, a family-run cut flower greenhouse.
Oregon Flowers sources top-quality bulbs from both the northern and southern hemispheres, ensuring a commitment to quality, consistency, and reliability in every stem they produce.
Today, the Mesker family, including their adult children, specializes in cultivating and selling lilies, tulips, calla lilies, and seasonal flowers. Their products are distributed to wholesalers and specialty retailers throughout the United States and Canada.
Oregon Flowers is a testament to the power of family, tradition, and the American Dream. With an unwavering commitment to quality and a passion for flowers, the Meskers have built a thriving business that is a major supplier of cut flowers to the North American market.
High standards and a deep understanding of the horticultural industry also guide their insurance selection.
“I’m pretty involved with the Society of American Florists, and Hortica supports that, so I want to support Hortica. If you know your money is being spent on your industry instead of going to a big conglomerate that would never do anything to help our industry, I think it just makes sense for nursery and greenhouse people, flower farmers, and others to support an insurance company that supports our industry. It’s a no-brainer.”
